Altar Guild Needs Help

Altar Guild is looking for volunteers! Anyone age 14 and older is welcome to join. You will serve just two months per year and can be trained at your convenience. Please prayerfully consider this opportunity. Contact Nancy Reglin with questions!

September Adult Education

All Classes in the Bethlehem Room this month.

September 16 – We Are the Church Together: Information, Discussion and Action

This class will be a sampler plate (mini-buffet?) of video, devotional, question and answer, and activities chosen from various ELCA publications embracing hospitality/welcome, living our faith and sharing it with others.

September 23, 30 and October 7 – Bible Study on the book of Mark with Bill Amos.

Coffee Hour this Fall

When we return to a two-service schedule on September 9, Coffee Hour will change as well. We will have “hosted” coffee hour from 9:30-10:45am, and a “self-serve” coffee hour from 12pm until fellowship time ends. This change is due to a lack of volunteers to serve after the 11am worship service. If there is demand for hosted coffee hour after 11am worship, a sign-up sheet can be offered. Please contact the church office if you wish to be added to the coffee hour host list, we always need volunteers.

Voter Registration Available Today

We will offer voter registration and vote by mail after both services today. Please stop by our table if:

· You need to register for the first time

· You have moved

· Your name has changed

· It’s been 4 years or more since you last voted

· You’d like to Vote By Mail (Absentee Ballot)

For more info, contact Teresa Schmalz (phone # in the directory.) Sponsored by the Social Justice Committee and friends.

OWLs (Older Wiser Lutherans)

The OWLs will meet at church to car pool to the Idaho Museum of Mining & Geology September 18 at 9:45. We will leave the church by 10am. The cost for the museum is $2.00.

We will have lunch at the Trolley House, 1821 Warm Springs Ave. (208-345-9255) at 11:30am. They have breakfast and lunch available.

Contact Marge Holmquist with questions at 208-323-6258 or 208-867-5065. There will be a sign up sheet on the bulletin board for the Museum as they want to have an idea of how many are coming.

Stewardship Update – Take 5

The Five-Year Budgeting Projection presented at the Semi-Annual Meeting contained a number of opportunities to grow our ministry. The Fall Pledge Drive kick-off starts after Labor Day. How could you enable an increased budget to support the ministries of our congregation?

BUNCO Event Coming!

A special Bunco Evening is scheduled for Friday, September 28. Tickets for this event go on sale Sunday August 26 for $15.00 each, and will include an evening meal. Proceeds from this event will go toward Human Trafficking Victims.

Gingerbread Houses

A large feature of our upcoming WELCA Bazaar will be handmade gingerbread houses. If you are interested in putting together and decorating these already prepared houses, please contact Anise Dahlquist (208-514-1377). Anise is hosting, leading, and guiding this "gingerbread fest" at her home (7267 W. Cascade Dr.) from 9am to 9pm October 8, 9, and 10. If you are interested in coming all or partial days to please R.S.V.P. at the above number. Happy decorating!

Knitting Club

The Knitting Club has started back up. We meet at 1pm in the Conference Room every second and fourth Wednesday.

Update from the Loy Family

Kelly is now a Licensed Professional Counselor working in Mountain Home, beginning her pastoral counseling practice called Shared Path Counseling. Tom is still at the VA, and Katelyn has begun third grade. Our family will be worshipping at Immanuel this fall and maybe longer. We are not transferring membership yet, just worshipping with our sister congregation for awhile. Blessings to you all, and please stay in touch!

—Kelly, Tom, and Katelyn Loy,  208-322-2386

Milestone Sunday, September 30

Parents and children (ages 3 through grade 8) will celebrate their age-appropriate Milestone. Parents and youth come during Sunday school during September to check our your new milestone, be blessed and learn about our awesome God, who is here for you! On September 30 we will gift each child and bless them in their journey of faith.

Bizarre Bazaar!

Coming again this fall: the Bizarre Bazaar! Friday, November 9 and Saturday, November 10. We are putting out a call for all willing BAKERS! If you have made cookies, bars, bread, candy, jams, or other items for the bazaar in the past we are counting on you again this year! We also WELCOME any NEW bakers, male or female, because we know we have some excellent male bakers/cooks in our church! Help us exceed last year's goal of 60 kinds of cookies/bars with a goal of 65 for 2018. The Fudge Buffet was a success last year, so we will also be looking for fudge makers. There will be a signup sheet on the bulletin board by the Fellowship Hall. As always, we are grateful and blessed by your generous support and culinary talents. Questions? Please call Pat Nearman, 208-577-1207.

Community Free Meal

Wow! What an August Community Free Meal! We had 49 adults and 6 children and served 68 meals. We actually ran out of barbequed chicken, but we served them corn-on-the-cob, veggies, chips, and dessert. Thanks to all who donated and/or helped with the meal. Signup sheets are posted for September 29.

The WELCA General Meeting will be Saturday, October 13 at 11am. Our program features Jennifer Zielinski, Director with Idaho Anti-Trafficking Coalition and Chair of the Consortium for Idahoans with Disabilities, who is in the process of opening up Solace House, Idaho’s first safe house for minor victims of sex trafficking.

ELCA Good Gifts

In August we collected money to provide scholarships for girls to attend school. Each $40 will pay for one student’s schooling and uniform. For September we are collecting for clinic visits for a child at $10 apiece. There is a poster in the Narthex where you can drop off your offering. Let’s see what we can do this month! Thanks for all your donations. Those coins do a lot of good.

The Social Ministry Committee thanks you, KOG people, for your support of our Lutheran World Relief school kit project. We assembled 151 school kits to be distributed through Lutheran World Relief, provided zippered, 3-ring binders complete with school supplies to ten students in our community and gave three boxes of school supplies to an elementary school. THANK YOU!

Congratulations to Brittany, Anthony, and Boston (10 year-old daughter) on the healthy birth of their baby boy. Fred and Marge Holmquist are the proud great-grandparents.

Many, many thanks to all who sent cards, phone calls and congregational prayers during my recent health challenges. They were so greatly appreciated and felt.
