Make a Note of It!
Our summer service schedule has begun. There will be no children’s Sunday school until September 9, but Adult Education will continue through the summer.
We also have Wednesday night Summer Worship at 7pm from May 30 through August 29, with a potluck open to all at 6pm with hot dogs and hamburgers provided from the grill before the service.
“MAKE A JOYFUL NOISE!” From age 1 to 101, ALL are invited to join us in supporting our Worship with your voices. During the summer months, if you would like to try out singing in the choir – join us 30 minutes prior to the service to sing through the hymns – NO Wednesday night rehearsals, NO pressure, NO commitment, just LOTS of fun! Questions? See Laurann.
Pastor Jean Vargo will be moving to her new house on June 23! She needs assistance with moving either the 22nd, to load the truck, or on the 23rd, to load and unload at their new address! They plan to start at 8am. There is a signup sheet on the bulletin board. Please join us.
Social Ministry Brunch
Social Ministry would like to invite you to our annual brunch after church on June 24. We will have delicious egg bakes, fruit, and desserts. We will welcome your free will offerings which will be used to purchase food for several food banks in December. Thank you for helping to feed the hungry members of our community.
We are updating the Home Communion Roster. Do you serve home communion to someone? Please contact the office and let us know who you are serving and how often. Do you know someone who would like to receive home communion? Please tell the office who it is and we will get them on the schedule. Thank you!
Procession of Flags, July 1, 2018
We will celebrate Independence Day by having a Procession of Flags at the opening of the service on July 1. If you have an American flag of any kind, please bring it to the office by June 29 to be used in the procession. If your flag has a staff, please bring it as well. If you would like to carry a flag please let the office know. We are looking for a variety of American flags to share.
Luther Heights Women’s Retreat
Mark your calendars and sign up for a marvelous weekend in the Sawtooth Mountains. The annual Women's Retreat will be the weekend of July 20-22 featuring guest speaker Pastor Inger Hanson from Shepherd of the Mountains in Jackson, WY. Her theme is from John 1:16: "From His fullness we have all received grace upon grace." This will be an experience not to be missed, full of God's grace, friendships, great food, and yes, a mosquito or two! Registration and carpooling information will be found on the WELCA bulletin board as well as the Luther Heights Website. Please plan to make this a weekend just for YOU!
REMINDERS & ANNOUNCEMENTS
Save the Date! Semi-Annual Meeting July 15
Please plan to attend King of Glory’s Semi-Annual Meeting after the service on July 15. Your presence is desired.
Thrivent Builds Habitat Home - Sign Up Now
King of Glory has reserved Saturday June 23 for the Habitat build sponsored by Thrivent. The sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board outside the Fellowship Hall. We will bring a team of 8 (18+ years of age!) and there is an opportunity to sign up to make and bring lunch to the crew. Many slots are still available!
Care Support Group
This self-help group is for people who find themselves in changing, difficult or unexpected circumstances to meet for mutual support. The group meets the second Tuesday of each month in the Conference Room. Our next meeting will be July 10 at 12:00pm. Bring your lunch or snacks, if you like. The only requirement for joining is to come to the meeting.
Wednesday Bible Study
“The Chase,” based on King David and the Psalms, meets the first and third Wednesdays of the month at 9:30am in the Library.
Adult Education Opportunities This Summer!
The Christian Education Committee theme for adult summer education will be TED Talks. Leaders will choose a topic they find compelling and share a short video. Classes will be held AFTER the one summer Service so there will be plenty of time for discussion. TED.com offers thousands of educational subjects. Perhaps there's one that has made a difference in how you think about life in the world outside the church doors, and you would like to share.
This summer our Acolyte, Greeter, Usher and Communion Service Assistant positions will be chosen by congregants the morning of Worship! Please take your desired card off the clothesline and the job is yours! There is a brief description on the back with your duties during worship. Pastor will also be available to answer any questions you might have. After the service is over, please hang your card back on the clothesline.
Free Blood Pressure Checks
The Faith Community Nurse (Parish Nurse) program is offering Blood Pressure Screenings every month on the third Sunday between church services. If you would like your blood pressure checked, register at the table in the narthex and the nurses will direct you. Our next screening date will be June 17.
OWLs Out to Lunch Bunch
The OWLs lunch for June will be at Chuck-O-Rama on Entertainment & Overland, June 19th at 11:30. Come and enjoy the group’s company!
Our Lutheran World Relief Quilters could use a few extra sets of hands! There are many jobs for members of all ages and abilities. Cutting, tying and sewing are just a few of the tasks. No experience necessary! Join us Thursdays at 9am in the Quilting Room. A break at 10:30am is always included with coffee and treats! Contact Donna Groth with questions: 208-761-8022.
In June, we made 46 loaves of sandwiches, delivered to the Boise Rescue Mission. We thank everyone who helped with this project. We will need all items (meat, cheese, bread and margarine) for Sandwich Sunday on July 8.
Next Community Free Meal
May Free Meal was well attended for a holiday weekend. We fed 41 people (including 5 children) and with seconds and take hone meals, we served 61 meals. Our grill master Steve Bolton did an excellent job on the BBQ chicken thighs and Anise Dahlquist’s potato salad was out of this world! Thanks to all who donated food and helped on the kitchen. Sign-up sheets are posted for June 30th.
Luther Heights Day Camp June 25-28
Luther Heights Day Camp is quickly approaching! We have room for 18 children, ages K-6, to attend at King of Glory! There are information and registration forms available on the Usher's stand. The cost is $25 for a week of fun and fellowship! Congregants, friends, neighbors, grandkids - ALL ARE WELCOME!
Dinner Hosts Needed
The Luther Heights Day Camp staff will need dinner provided for them on the nights of the 26th and the 27th. If you can assist by feeding these youth, please contact Ashlee in the office.
We meet on Thursdays at 8:30am at the Black Bear Diner on Entertainment Ave. near the Edwards Cinema and the Costco on Cole.
Please help Houston Youth Gathering attendees in Texas. Each Idaho resident can receive a bag of 50 FREE potato pins that say IDAHO. The youth and leaders will exchange these in Texas. Put them in Katie Vaage's box. The Idaho Potato Commission is at 661 S. Rivershore Ln, # 230, Eagle. THANKS!
Our “Head Spuds” have been assigned to Potato Fields. Check the map to see who yours is! All field members will be contacted to arrange a Fellowship Event in the coming months.
ELCA Good Gifts
In May we did very well. With half of the offering from the WELCA luncheon, we purchased a fruit nursery for $150. In addition, from the piggy banks we were able to purchase eight fruit seedlings. Thanks to all who donated. In June, we are collecting to buy water filters at $30 each. Let’s try to buy three!
Luther Heights Bible Camp
Luther Heights Bible Camp is requesting donations to renovate the director's cabin. The floor and other things need repair. Also, a kitchen table and chairs and a lounge chair are needed.
Donate to: Bob Kuehner, HC 64, Box 9381, Ketchum, ID. 83340. Thank you for your support!
Lutheran World Relief school kits is the Social Ministry project for the months of July and August. The Committee recognizes the need for school supplies for children around the world and in our community who lack these basic essentials to aid them in their learning. We ask you to stretch your hearts and hands and take advantage of July and August retail school supplies promotions to help young students in need and to help us meet our goal of 100 school kits! Each kit consists of the items below (total of each item needed for 100 kits is in parentheses):
Four 70-sheet notebooks, wide or college-ruled, 8½ X 11 inches (400)
One 30-centimeter ruler with/or without inches on the other side (100)
One pencil sharpener with shavings receptacle (100)
One blunt scissors (100)
Five unsharpened #2 pencils with erasers (500)
Five blue or black ballpoint pens (no gel ink) (500)
One box 24 ct. crayons (100)
One 2-inch pink eraser (100)
Please leave donated items on the Social Ministry table in the Fellowship Hall. These supplies are essential to the learning process of students, and the kits are an immeasurable blessing to those who receive them.
It is Jammin’ time again! I would appreciate receiving any jars you would be willing to part with, which I will use for jam to be sold at the upcoming bazaar.
--Thank you, Bev Siefkes
Thank You from RIC
Immediately following the service YOU ARE INVITED to a viewing of the compelling movie For the Bible Tells Me So in the Forum. The Reconciling in Christ group thanks everyone who helped with the movie last Sunday and the coffee hosts who served! We appreciate the Sandwich Ministry for changing their location for the day, too. We had a good turnout for much of the movie and about 15 who watched the entire documentary. If you want to see the end (the most uplifting part!), the library has a DVD for checkout, or talk to Gabrielle Applequist or Jana Price to borrow theirs. Thank you, too, for the responses on the How to Be Welcoming bulletin board in the Narthex. There are many good ideas to get us started! Feel free to post more thoughts as you have them!
